As of January 2024, the Pontiac Public Library is undertaking a project to digitize both the Pontiac Sentinel and Pontiac Daily Leader. Once this project is completed, people with a Pontiac library card can search these two old newspapers remotely using a desktop or cell phone. The library does not sell annual library cards to non-residents. A computer is supposed to be set up for public use in the library for non-residents to search the two newspapers for free.

It is not known if the microfilm system will remain in service or not after the digitization process is completed.

The Pontiac Sentinel was published from 1857 until about 1900. The Pontiac Library microfilm only goes back to 1871. The Sentinel is not yet digitized as noted above.

Pontiac Library Index Card System

Volunteers went through the old newspapers and noted each time a name was mentioned. If you are looking for a person, you can check the index card system and see if the person is mentioned and what date.
